Claremont Primary and Nursery School

A Brighter Future for Everyone

PE

Curriculum Intent

At Claremont, we believe that PE supports the children to lead active, healthy lives.

Our PE curriculum provides engaging and challenging activities that help to inspire children of all different levels to be active and to lead healthy lives. We aim to grow the whole child through our PE curriculum, by focusing on a wide variety of skills and knowledge that will help children to develop: physically, mentally and socially. We ensure that all children are given a range of competitive opportunities and other activities that will build character and help to embed our school values.

While at Claremont, all children have the opportunity to compete in sports days as well as represent our school in a range of sporting competitions throughout the year. These include: football, dodgeball, handball, cricket and multi-sports.

Claremont also work in close partnership with Nottingham Forest Football Club as part of their Premier League Primary Stars initiative. Adopting the Premier League ethos, children are encouraged to: be ambitious, be inspiring, be connected and be fair. Through this work, a specialist NFFC coach works in school one day each week where they deliver specialist football coaching for children in Years 1-6. They also work as a behaviour mentor and deliver Reading Stars intervention sessions with targeted children. Children have the opportunity to attend a range of collapsed curriculum days at The City Ground - the home of Nottingham Forest. Here, they engage in a variety of curriculum days focused on personal development, diversity, respect, STEM, author visits and of course, football. Children are able to meet players from the men's and women's teams as well as tour the stadium where they get to see behind the scenes of a working stadium.
