A Brighter Future for Everyone
Curriculum Intent
At Claremont, we believe that Geography opens up the world for our children and encourages them to be curious about our planet and the world in which we live.
Our Geography curriculum will inspire children with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Children will gain knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We intend to develop children’s competency in the geographical skills through the use of fieldwork, maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
It is our aim to open up the world for our children. This is done through the use of fieldwork and visits out of school. These start small in our local area for our younger children and gradually progress throughout the children's time at school to visits out of the city over a number of days for our older children.
Children in Year 3 and Year 6 are offered the opportunity to experience overnight residentials where they are able to partake in learning focused on the development of geographical skills and fieldwork. These visits enrich and build on the fieldwork skills and knowledge children are taught each year throughout their time at Claremont.
