General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

At Claremont Primary &Nursery School, we collect, store and use a wide range of personal information about our pupils, staff and families. We do this to support learning, manage our responsibilities as a school, and keep everyone safe.

This information is handled in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — Regulation (EU) 2016/679 — which sets out how personal data must be used and protected.

What Is Personal Data?

Personal data refers to information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. This includes names, addresses, contact details, academic records, medical information and more.

The GDPR sets out seven key principles that we follow when managing personal data:

  1. Lawfulness, fairness and transparency
  2. Purpose limitation – used only for clear, specified purposes
  3. Data minimisation – only what's necessary
  4. Accuracy – kept up to date
  5. Storage limitation – not kept longer than needed
  6. Integrity and confidentiality – kept safe and secure
  7. Accountability – we take full responsibility for compliance

You can read more about these principles on the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) website.
