A Brighter Future for Everyone

Week 2 w/c 1st March

Welcome back to our last week of home learning. I am really looking forward to seeing you all in school next week!

Our story of the week is Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell

Monday 1st March

Activity 1

Literacy (reading) and Speaking and Listening

Enjoy listening to our story of the week. You can find the link below.

After listening to the story think about the following questions:

  • Which animal would you keep?
  • Why would you like to keep that animal?

I think I would keep the elephant so I could ride it to school!

  • Which animal didn't you like?
  • Why didn't you like it?

Dear Zoo

I wrote to the Zoo to send me a pet...

Here is a singing version of our story for you to enjoy too!

Original story song to accompany this children's classic by Rod Campbell. Enjoy!

Activity 2

Literacy

Draw a picture of your favourite animal for the zoo keeper. If you do not have paper at home you could use the Dojo App.

As an extension your child could write the initial sound of the animal they have chosen.

5 Things of the week - Monday

Our daily dollop of learning a language, sound, colour, number and shape.

Tuesday 2nd March

Activity 1

Maths and Creative

This week our special nursery rhyme is Five Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed. When your child is more familiar with the rhyme they could act it out with their own teddies on their bed. This is very similar to the song we did last week so hopefully your child will be more confident to have a go!

Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed | Children Nursery Rhyme | Flickbox Kids Songs

FlickBox presents 5 Little Monkeys, a popular children's rhyme about five naughty monkeys who jump on the bed and get into trouble, for your kid to watch and...

Wednesday 3rd March

Activity 1

Maths and Creative

Literacy and speaking and listening

Revisit our story of the week. Encourage your child to join in with the repeated words "I sent him back ".

As an extension your child could try retelling the whole story using pictures of the animals as prompts.

After listening to the story play an animal noise game together. Have fun making animal noises and guessing which animal they are from or you could listen to the noises below:

Activity 2

Maths

Play I Spy using the below picture. At this point it may be too tricky to use initial sounds but you could play this game in different ways such as I spy with my little eye something that is:

  • the colour ...
  • that snaps
  • that roars
  • big/ small

Extra challenge:

Can you count how many elephants there are?

Thursday 25th February

  • Activity 1
  • Maths
  • In the story all of the animals arrive in boxes. Can you find different sized boxes in your house and see how many objects you can fit into them?

Some boxes you could use are:

  • Toothpaste box
  • Cereal box
  • Rice box
  • If you use a big box filling it with bigger items would be a good idea so that the numbers don’t go too high. You know best how high your child can count. In nursery we are focusing on up to 10.
  •
  • Activity 2
  • Physical
  • Get your body moving and join in with Andy's Wild Work Out. Have fun moving like lots of different types from the African Savannah.

Activity 2

Literacy

Say your name out loud. Can you hear what sound your name begins with? Can you find any items in your house that start with the same sound.

My teacher name begins with a 'w'. I found a window, wipes and wellies! I wonder what you will find!

Extension activity:

Can you write the first sound in your name? Can you write any more letters? I would love to see a photo on Dojo.

This brings us to the end of our home learning. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and we can't wait to see you on Monday.
