Welcome to Year 1!
This half term our main class project will be 'Childhood'. We will explore the six stages of human life and then explore what it was like to be a child living in the 1950's.
The Knowledge Organiser allows the children to explore key concepts and new vocabulary at home. Please take the time to talk about the words and ideas on the page with your child.
Throughout the half term, we will also be taking part in other smaller projects including 'Mix It'. The children will learn to name the primary and secondary colours. They will create a colour wheel as well as compare different pieces of art.
Some useful books to support learning at home include...
Mix It Up by Herve Tullet
Colour Bears by Tasha Pym
Our class text is Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson.
We will make predictions about the story using the pictures and text. The children will create paper dolls of their own which they will use to write descriptive phrases and sentences.
We are learning to write simple sentences. To do this, there will be lots of opportunities for speaking and listening. The children need time to develop their ideas verbally and we will be encouraging them to answer questions using full sentences.
